On September 13, the Isabela State University-Cauayan Campus Food Innovation Center administered a Technology Transfer with Food Safety Training Seminar at the College of Business and Management new building.

Dir. Conchita Palencia, Chief Executive Officer of Green Ladies Inc., specified the main objectives of the training seminar with the aim to help the members of Green Ladies with their livelihood while sharing the basic food safety procedures in a collaboration with ISU-FIC

“This program will help those who already have businesses, to know the proper manufacturing services. Moreover, to know the different technologies that will further help your businesses to grow,” Palencia stated the main objectives of the training seminar.

Center Director of ISU-FIC, Kristin Bernadette D. Callang, PFT, introduced the facilities and services that ISU-FIC offers, emphasizing that it is their way to reach a wider market of beneficiaries.

“We are in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology and all the activities (projects, outputs, prototypes) are all funded by DOST,” Callang added.

She then lectured, highlighting the Basic Food Safety Principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Republic Act 10611 Food Safety Act of 2013, strengthening the food safety regulations system in the country to protect consumer health and facilities.

Moreover, they discussed the importance of food safety to the participants and shared the Do’s and Don’ts during the manufacturing services of the products that includes: proper food storage, good hygiene, prevention of cross-contamination, cooking food to proper temperature, and avoiding mistakes in food preparation.

Furthermore, ISU-FIC staffs demonstrated the step-by-step process of the different products they have produced in their center months ago. They also present their finish product including: Dried Cucurbits, Ready-to-Drink: Fruit Juice Concentrate, Fruit Wine and Pickled Rabong.

The training seminar aimed to educate the participants with good practices so that they will also apply the Basic Food Safety Principles with their businesses and also to give new ideas to make a new product using locally produced raw materials.

Said event was attended by the Green Ladies Association Inc., PIGLAI-KALIPI members from different cities of Region 2: Santa Maria, Benito Soliven, Cabatuan, Luna, and Cauayan.
