ISU-CC, Cauayan City, Isabela – Isabela State University-Cauayan Campus conducts the Gender Awareness & Understanding seminar to educate students on the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Law today.

Ma. Catherine C. Ordonez, Gender and Development (GAD) focal person of Cauayan City, talked about the prominent points, and misconceptions about Sexual Orientation. Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) and cited historical facts about the situation of gender fairness in the Filipino context.

This is the 2nd part of a two-day seminar. The 1st part was conducted on September 23.

PMaj Esem Galiza, the speaker in the first part of the seminar discussed the Anti-VAWC Law (RA 9262) particularly the part that protects women and children. She gave real-life situations that students could easily relate to.

The seminar was attended by twenty representatives from the seven colleges of the campus. The participants were divided into two sessions, the morning session which was attended by participants from four colleges, and the afternoon session from the 3 colleges. The seminar was divided into two periods to maintain the minimum health protocol in compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) COVID 19: Safe Schools.

Dr, Josephine Cristobal, Director of Extension and Training Services, expressed her gratefulness to the speakers for accepting the assigned responsibility of expounding the laws on Gender and Awareness.

The Office of the Students Affairs and Services headed by Dr. Josh Lord Aquino, the Guidance and Counselling Unit led by Ms. Gerarda Hoggang and Ms. Faith F. Ramil, and the Student Supreme Council directed by its adviser, Mr. Dionicio Gante spearhead the event.

Another seminar on Gender Awareness is also expected on October 21 for the residents of Barangay Rogus of this city as initiated by the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) through its faculty and students under the deanship of Dr. Loui Ray Quilang. The partnership with the local Government Unit of Rogus through Barangay Captain Faustino S. Gapasin aims to create an in-depth awareness and update on the current issues of violence against women and children of the residents (ERB).
