Tabuk City – In a collaborative effort led by Isabela State University (ISU), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02, and DOST-CAR, Tabuk City is stepping into the future with a Smart City Roadmap Formulation workshop held on January 31, 2023.
With a focus on innovation and transformation, this initiative aims to guide Tabuk City in developing priority research programs, projects, and activities aligned with the Smarter City Framework. The roadmap is a strategic tool, outlining vital steps and milestones for realizing the city’s innovative research ideas.
Ms. Raquel Santos, DOST Smart City Focal Person, presented the DOST Smart City Framework and the Smart City Roadmap created by the Philippine Council for Industry Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development.
Highlighting the technological aspects, Dr. Betchie Aguinaldo, ISU Program Director of the Business Intelligence Development Center (BIRD-C), shared insights into technologies developed by BIRD-C as part of the Smarter City Program. The discussion included topics such as the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Challenges (SWOC), Stakeholders’ Analysis, and lessons from Cauayan City’s experiences on their Smart City journey, presented by Dr. Aguinaldo and Ms. Raquel Santos.
This collaborative activity aligns with ISU’s commitment to optimizing functions, promoting economic growth, and improving the quality of life through smart technologies and data analysis. ISU, working in tandem with DOST R02, actively supports the implementation of Smarter City and Community solutions in Tabuk City.
The collaboration is part of the ongoing efforts to elevate cities and communities by harnessing the potential of emerging technologies and promoting innovation in the industry and energy sectors. ISU and DOST R02 are focused on creating Science and Technology interventions to generate opportunities and achieve economic sustainability. The workshop witnessed the participation of LGU Tabuk City, the Provincial Science and Technology Office – Kalinga, Kalinga State University (KSU), CENRO – Tabuk City, BFP Tabuk City, among others.
